Valley Cat Hustle

Host a Hustle

Hosting a hustle can be super simple or rather complex. Stops can be as basic as grabbing a sticker to put on their spoke card, or something wild like obstacle courses! Creativity and not just having it be about who is fastest is adds a lot more depth and fun to the hustles! (although who is fastest is fun too!) A few more ideas:

  • Poker - get a random card at each stop and strongest hand wins.
  • Dungeons and Dragons - roll a d20 at each stop to "battle" a monster. Most wins combined with fastest time wins
  • Video Games - each stop has a different video game to play and each rider will try to get as high a score as possible at each. The rider with the highest cummulative points wins! (pro-tip: some people are really good at Super Mario Bros and can beat the game on one life...ask us how we know. Set a low time limit!)
  • Video Games part deux - instead of playing them, be in them! Setup stops themed around your favorite game or games. Throw cardboard barrels down a hill and have your players jump over them. Have an Excite Bike course on some bandit BMX/pump tracks. Award points arbitrarily or with a system!
  • Movie themes - Waterworld for when it's hot? Sure! Star Wars in May? Go for it!
  • Arts and Crafts - get supplies to craft something; have everyone contribute to a different piece at each stop; costume contests!
  • Or KISS - sometimes it's nice to figure out the fastest route, grab a stamp and be on your way!

If you're interested in hosting a hustle, or being on the volunteer list, please keep in mind the guidelines below and drop us a line on insta or at yo@valleycathustle.com.

  1. Keep an eye on distance! Aim for about 5-10 of mileage.
  2. If you have challenges/games at your stops, it's best if they don't cause a huge line to form, so make em fast or have the means/volunteers to get several people through at once. (less important if you're not going for fastest podiums)
  3. You can ask participants to bring common things, like bags, craft supplies, etc... but make sure it's nothing too cumbersome or expensive.
  4. You can charge an entry fee of no more than $5 to cover your expenses, any remainder should be given out to podium winners or charity.
  5. A little bit of sadism is ok, but we're not trying to have "spartan" or "savage" style events.
  6. Follow our rules.
